Happy Birthday Sarah!

Happy Birthday to my sister Sarah!

She was "almost" born in Pizza Hut. (Not really, there was plenty of time to go home to drop me off between Pizza Hut and the hospital. But she did insist on us eating at Pizza Hut for her birthday a few times when we were kids).

Apparently I wanted to name her either kitchen or chair.  Both very suitable names, don't you think.

Unfortunately the only thing I remember about the day she was born was walking through the hospital and seeing an "old" man in a hospital bed which scared me (I was 3 1/2) and the small horse that as part of the toy my Granny gave me.

I think it was for her 5th birthday, I got her a the stuffed animal version of Sizzle from The Puzzle Place- apparently at the time it was our favorite show.

I'm very grateful to have a sister- an instant playmate- then and now. Glad we currently live in the same city.

She has always been and will always be stronger and tougher than me.

Hilton Head 2011: Part FIVE

We left Hilton Head on JP's birthday, so we celebrated the night before.  I'm not sure what he was more sad about, turning 26 or leaving the beach the next day.  My guess would be leaving the beach.

On the way home, we stopped at Chickfila and further celebrated JP's birthday.  And yes, JP is wearing his Disney World button he got last year.

Hilton Head 2011: Part TWO

The first full day we were at the beach was my birthday!  That evening we went to dinner... my choice.  I picked the Crazy Crab because I thought for sure they would have a free dessert for you on your birthday.

I was right.  I got a slice of peanut butter pie for my birthday!  JP got one too since his birthday was that week as well.

Once we got back to the house, we celebrated with more dessert!  A Coca-Cola Cake.  And yes, I was wearing my Disney World Birthday Button I got last year when we went.

Another thing happened on my birthday... I got stung by a jellyfish!  Everyone got stung at some point on the trip, so we made sure to bring vinegar with us when we went down.  It ended up just being the first day and last day that people got stung.

Although everyone got stung, I definitely got it the worst.  If you look closely you can see the red on my leg.  Not only did it sting me in the front but on the back of the other leg too.

The day after it happened it began to heal.  On the day we left it was almost gone.  However, a week to the day it happened, the mark swelled up incredibly bad and itched SO badly.  I ended up having to get a shot!

This jellyfish must have wanted to give me a birthday gift that will last forever.  To this day (one month twenty days later) you can still see where this jellyfish stung me.  Crazy! Especially since no one else that got stung has had this problem.

Anyway, it was definitely a memorable birthday... beach, dessert, and jellyfish.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ^3

The month of January is the birth month of THREE special people in my life.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROOKE!
January 24th is my cousin Brooke's birthday.

Brooke is my mom's sister Carol's daughter. What is really cool is Brooke grew up right down the street from my family! When I was in elementary school we would pick her up from middle school (and on Friday's we got to go to the candy store!). Brooke went to school at Savannah College of Art and Design, and we even got to visit her in Savannah. After graduating with a degree in photography, she moved to NYC where she works for a photographer. She has been there for a while, and ironically when I went to NYC for the first time this summer she was in Alabama.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH!
January 26th is my sister Sarah's birthday.

Sarah is definitely one of my favorite people. She and I get each other like well only sisters could get each other. Sometimes we talk in an Asian accent and sometimes we call each other Pablo. To us that is completely normal.

Right now, I love the fact that she lives right down the street from me, and we can go on walks together.

Here are the things I remember about Sarah being born:
  • We were eating Pizza Hut right before my Mom went into labor. Therefore, for several years, Sarah made us eat at Pizza Hut on her birthday.
  • Coming back from Pizza Hut, getting my Minnie Mouse sleeping bag, and staying the night at our neighbor's house.
  • Mrs. Joyce telling me in the morning that I had a little sister.
  • My Dad and I walking through the hospital going to see my Mom and sister. As we were walking I looked into one of the rooms, and I saw a man who looked very sick. This freaked me out. (I don't know why I so vividly remember this!).
  • My Granny Evelyn brought me a toy to play with. I remember sitting on the floor in my Mom's room playing with it. There was a small horse that was part of the toy, and I'm pretty sure I still know where this small horse is.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMANDA!
January 27th is the birthday of one of my good friends, Amanda.

Amanda and I went to Samford together. We were both nutrition majors and Phi Mu's. We were even neighbors one year. One of the Phi Mu parties was to the Braves game. It was freezing but we walked all over that park to find the one ice cream stand that was open.

Amanda and I also lived together in Dallas. One of my favorite memories of Amanda in Dallas is our trip to the fair where we ate tons of fried food like fried guacamole and fried latte.
Amanda was also one of the bridesmaids in my wedding.

Amanda is currently living in Fort Collins, Colorado, but she is moving to Atlanta in a few weeks!

The coolest birthday present EVER...

As previously mentioned JP and I have birthdays in the same week of August. I thought that my present from him was this shirt.

On my birthday, August 7, JP's mom and brother (Michael aka Mooks) came into town. Mooks is an awesome photographer. You should check out his website!

Anyway, I was talking to Mooks about photography and cameras. He was showing me some of his new pictures and I was saying how I really want a digital SLR. I was talking about how I'd been looking at them on the internet and was going to start saving money for one.
I mean I probably talked about this for like a hour.

Mooks said, "So I got you a birthday present." He went over to his bag and pulled out a long cylinder wrapped in newspaper. I open it and it is this fancy looking camera lense. I said, "Thanks! I mean I don't have a way to use it right now but maybe someday I will!"

Then JP leaned forward and pulled over to me a bag that I thought was Mook's camera bag. I started to catch on to what it was and I was kinda in shock!

JP got me a Canon Rebel XT for my birthday! Not only that but it came with some awesome lenses and other equipment.

It was one of the coolest surprises ever! I totally did NOT expect it! I think I just kept hugging him and saying thank you over and over.

It was perfect timing because I got to use it and learn from the best, Mooks, in NYC.

I'm still learning... I really want to get good at it! Once my classes die down I'll have more time to devote to becoming a great photographer :)

The Countdown to 24

JP and I turn 24 this week. I am August 7 and he is August 13. Yep we were born in the same week of the same year... and I won the competition of gracing the world with my presence first.

So I've dedicated August 7-13 as JP & Megan's Birthday Extravaganza Week! Unfortunately I will not be with JP on his birthday. I will be in NYC with his family while he is here in Birmingham working since he can't take any time off during the summer. So I'm pretty much a terrible wife. BUT we are trying to make the time I am here extra fun.

We each bought ourselves a birthday present.

I'm sure you can figure out whose gift belongs to who but just in case you for someone reason thought I am the one obsessed with speakers... the Chacos are mine and the Subwoofer is JP's. (I'm the one obsessed with Disney World). I've never seen anyone so happy about a speaker. I told him he looked like a glowing new mother... seriously he did.

JP also bought us each birthday shirts.

JP's shirt

My shirt. He went ahead and gave it to me since I was the one who got it from the mail.

He always gets me the most random things for my birthday.
First Birthday we were together: Electric knife
Second: Hammock chair (actually not random I really wanted one.)
Third: This random shirt that looks like a bomb exploded in the top corner

I really don't care what he gets me as long as he acknowledges it is my birthday in some way. Honestly he makes me feel special and loved every single day.

Now it's my turn to contribute to the Birthday Extravaganza... and I don't know what I'm going to do yet...
