And Years From Now I Look Back on the Good Times I Knew...

During my freshman year at Samford, I went through rush and pledged Phi Mu.  The year after I graduated from Samford, my Sister was a freshman there.  She, too, went through rush and pledged Phi Mu.

Every year before Rush, Phi Mu holds a Mom's Rush.  Mom's and alum come to the Phi Mu house on a Sunday afternoon, and the girls go through each night of Rush.  The girls get practice, and the Mom's and alum get to see all of their hard work.  I have continued going to these because since my Sister is there.  My Mom and I both went this year and had a lot of fun.  However, I realized several things that made me feel old:

• I know no one in Phi Mu anymore, except for my Sister's friends, because all the pledge classes that were there when I was there have now graduated.
• Because my Sister is a Senior, this was probably the last time that I will ever go to Mom's Rush.
• Because my Sister is not living in the Phi Mu house this year, this could be the last time I will ever be in the house.
• The girls going through Rush this year were in the 5th grade when I went through Rush... 7 years ago.
• Not even the current Seniors were there when Phi Mu had the ugly green door.  They have only known the pretty wood door..
• The little girl we sponsored through Compassion International got too old to be sponsored anymore, so the chapter got a new child to sponsor.
• All of my pictures from freshman year are not digital because I, and most people, did not have a digital camera

So, although our Composite picture might be on it's way to the basement, here's to all the girls that made Phi Mu something I will never forget...

Senior Year Memory Part TWENTY FIVE: Kickin' It at the Country Club

One of our Senior spring parties had a country club theme.  I was really pleased with me and JP's costumes! I told him to just wear a polo shirt and khakis, but he came with two cool hats and a croquet club as well.  I had borrowed a golf brand baseball-style hat from my dear little friend Braxton but decided the hat JP had did a lot more for the costume.  I also bought some golf clubs at the toy store.

Senior Year Memory Part TWENTY THREE: Formal

JP and I met a few friends at Amy's apartment before the party.  It was actually the same group that met there for the 80's party when JP and I initially met.

Afterwards we met more people at Brio for dinner.  I loved my meal but apparently JP gave his meal a funny look.

This formal held on December 2, 2006 was a little stressful.  Two nights before the party Phi Mu nationals informed our chapter that we would be required to take buses to our party... even though there would be no alcohol served and our party location was 2.4 miles (I google mapped it) away from Samford.  Despite our arguments, they did not change their mind.  It was quite difficult to find transportation at such short notice, but our president with the help of friends was able to get it taken care of.

So, JP and I got to ride in a limo for the 2.4 miles to the party.

 

We did have a fun night.

 

It is always fun to dress up! (Although JP might not agree. If you notice in the pics above JP did not tuck in his shirt.  I didn't even notice but once our families saw pictures several of them pointed this out).

Senior Year Memory Part EIGHTEEN: SemiFormal

Our semiformal senior year was in Chattanooga. We all rode together on a bus and spent the evening on a riverboat. We had dinner and danced all night. I don't remember a whole lot about the party except for it was EXTREMELY hot and everyone, especially the guys, was sweating.

The Wedding of Laurel & Casey...

Today marks the 6 month wedding anniversary of my dear friend Laurel and her husband Casey. I have been meaning to update on this for a long time and finally decided just to wait until this 1/2 year anniversary.

Laurel and I grew up in Decatur together and both went to Samford. We lived together for 3 years, and she was in my wedding as well.

Laurel and Casey's wedding was the first wedding I had been in besides my own. I had so much fun being one of Laurel's bridesmaids!

Because Laurel and I know each other from both home and school, I got to spend time with friends from home:

And JP wore a suit which I liked a lot...
I wish we had reasons to get dressed up more often (I'm not sure if he would agree with me on this one).

Senior Year Memory Part ELEVEN: The sweetest thing that you'll ever see in the whole wide world is a Phi Mu girl...

One of my favorite parts of senior year was Rush. I was definitely very sad that it was my last Rush!

For Philanthropy night we all wore bright colored polo shirts, jean skirts, and flip flops. I was a bump group leader and Amy was in my bump group so we all had a lot of fun! This is my bump group from senior year:

We were the Phi Mu Spa for Theme night. On this night I was one of the girls to sit on one of the three couches and say some things during the presentation. I still can remember the first couple of lines haha. We wore all white with green ribbon belts.

Pref was very emotional for most of the seniors! We were all so sad that it was our last rush! We started with probably 40 or so girls our freshman year and through transfers, etc. we endedu p kind of small, but we were a great group of girls! Here is our pledge class:

Pref was also fun though! I had two girls that I really liked that I got to pref. Amy really liked them both two so we both were able to pref them both so that was cool. They both ended up going Phi Mu too!

It is always so much fun to find out who the knew girls are on Bid Day! We ended up doing REALLY well my senior year! We exceeded quota and got most of our top girls!

Senior Year Memory PART FIVE: 5K and Hello

Every year Phi Mu has a 5K run to raise money for their Philanthropy, the Children's Miracle Network.

We would all work at the raise doing things like registration and cheering on the runners. Amy's boyfriend (now husband) Taylor was there as well. I've always felt this picture looks like Laurel, Amy, Emily, and I are Taylor and Blair's children.


At the time my sister was a senior in high school and was running on the cross country team. She decided she wanted to run in the Phi Mu 5K so she came down as well as my parents. This is significant because JP too ran in the 5K and at the time my parents had never met him. So, this was the first time they met JP which was kinda a big deal. After the race my family and JP went to eat at Jason's Deli. My parents seemed to like him so that was good!

STEP SING!

I LOVE Step Sing and look forward to it every year. I am very sad that I have graduated and can no longer participate. This year I sat with Laurel and Jennifer. My mom and sister also came but sat somewhere else. However, I did get to hang out with them before the show when my mom took me and Sarah to Macaroni Grill!



This year Phi Mu's theme was Clue, (you know, like the game!). It was so cute. They had the characters like Mrs. White, Mrs. Scarlett etc. They didn't win but they did win Participants Choice Best Choreography!



Pi Kapp won this year with their Office theme.
