Sweet Friends

I got to spend some time with two good friends that I haven't seen in a really long time!

Blair
Blair is responsible for setting up JP and me. She just got back a week or so ago from Nepal where she was serving the Lord for 4 months. I was so excited that she wanted to come to Birmingham!

We met for lunch Monday at Baha Burger. We then went to Alabama Adventure, where we both got in for free! We enjoyed hanging out in the wave pool talking and riding a few rides. We could not stay long though because I had class :(

JP, Blair, and I enjoyed a relaxing evening at the apartment. JP made hamburgers (i know hamburgers for lunch and dinner!). We all stayed up pretty late talking until it was time to go to bed! Blair was our first overnight apartment guest JP and I have had since we have been married.

Brittany
Brittany is my dear friend from Decatur. We seriously have not hung out since the summer of 2007 before I left for Dallas. I apparently have no pics from then so this pictures is from all the way back in November of 2006!

We have been able to keep up some over the phone but it's not the same as seeing each other. When Brittany told me she was doing an internship in Birmingham this summer, we were both very excited.

Tuesday night we ate at California Pizza Kitchen. We had a lot to talk about since so much has happened in the last... oh... two years!

And of course... as usual, our conversation revolved around boys! The first conversation we remember having was the summer after my senior year of high school on the roof outside of Laurel's bedroom window. It was about boys... We still talk about boys but the conversations are a little bit (ok, a whole lot) different now, and we like it that way!

@ JP's Uncle's

Last Sunday JP actually had the day off! His grandparents were in town so we spent the entire day at his Uncle's house. We enjoyed lunch at Jason's Deli (the grill was broken otherwise we would have had hamburgers), playing taboo, sitting on the deck, watching basketball, and hot dogs for dinner.

The below picture is of me holding JP's cousin Hannah's daughter McKinley

Cirque Magnifico

Last Saturday I went to Alabama Adventure for the first time! I know... long over due right! I met JP there so we could go to the Cirque Magnifico show at 8:30 Saturday night. These people were SUPER flexible. We pretty much sat there the whole time saying/thinking "how do they do that!"

I am now an official Alabama Adventure season pass holder and have a cool parking decal on my windshield.

Yesterday I made a mixed berry crisp. It was SO yummy... especially paired with vanilla ice cream. It was super easy to make too!

Ingredients:
4 cups fresh or frozen berries (I used 2 12oz bags of frozen mixed berries)
1/2 cup granulated white sugar
1 TBS corn starch
2 tsp lemon juice
1/3 cup flour
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
3/4 cup quick cooking rolled oats
pinch of salt
1/2 stick softened butter (4 TBS)

Preparation:
1. In a bowl combine the berries, granulated sugar, corn starch, and lemon juice. Mix to combine evenly. Pour into a lightly buttered baking dish. (I used cooking spray)

2. In a bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, oats, salt, and butter. Stir with a fork until the mixture is crumbly and evenly blended. Spread the mixture over the berries at bake at 375 degrees F for 30 minutes.

Let cool to warm before serving. Serve with vanilla ice cream.

(The only thing I might do differently next time is make more of the "crisp" part just because I like it so much. I will probably make double of that part)

Amy and Taylor's Wedding

Last weekend was Amy and Taylor's wedding! JP and I drove up to Memphis Saturday morning. The wedding was at 6:30. We had a lot of fun!

Laurel and Jennifer both sang in the wedding.

Half way through the reception, they had chocolate cake and milk. JP loved this and drank about 4 things of milk.

Thank You Note...

Dear Julianne Hough,

Due to my lack of pop culture knowledge, I did not know who you were until last night. Apparently you are a country music singer who was on Dancing with the Stars and is now opening for George Strait.

I just wanted to tell you thank you for getting sick last night resulting in rescheduling your concert at Alabama Adventure. Although it is unfortunate that you are having to deal with severe strep throat, I am very grateful that my husband got to come home early due to your sickness. He was able to go with me to our church coffee house. I was quite excited because I have to go to church events alone lately due to his work.

So to sum it up, thank you for getting sick so I could spend more time with my husband. Although I do have to ask... why did you have to reschedule on August 7... my birthday?

Get well soon Julianne!

TV!

Recently Fox 6 News decided to do a story on the ACE Unit at UAB Highlands. This is the unit I work on and I go to the daily rounds. Although I'm not the "star" of the news piece, I still made on the screen several times!

Check it out!

One thing I noticed... I need to work on my posture! Hopefully as I start to work out more my back muscles will get stronger and I will sit up straighter!
