The Texas Rangers, who play near Dallas, TX, have NEVER been to the World Series. In fact, their franchise has never won a post season series (aka. Division Series or Championship Series... both of which you must win in order to get to the World Series).
The Giants are the team that beat my Braves in the Division series. The Giants franchise has never won a World Series while located in San Francisco. All of their World Series wins came when they were located in New York, which they left at the end of the 1957 season.
The fact that San Francisco and Dallas are two very different cities has sparked some interesting stories from the media. I liked THIS article which CBS News contrasts baseball with politics. Here is an excerpt:
I find it interesting that, in the week leading to election day, the two teams competing in the World Series come from areas that stand opposite sides of the political arena. The Texas Rangers, from arguably the most conservative state in the nation, wear red jerseys on occasion. As red states go, it doesn't get much redder than Texas.
As for the Giants two words: San Francisco.
Red vs. Blue, Tea Party vs. Green Party, Flyover Country vs. The Left Coast, Limbaugh vs. Olberman. Okay, we get it.
But here's the thing. I have yet to hear the Giants fans accuse Rangers fans of being Nazis, or Texas accuse San Francisco of rigging the series. Neither team has denied their record, claimed to have won games they actually lost, or suggested that baseball be ruined forever if the other side prevails.
The video below is another example of the media grasping onto the fact that San Francisco and Dallas are so different. In my opinion, the news reporter is trying to be funny, and he definitely does make me laugh. These videos were found in an article on a San Francisco news station's website that was responding to the video. On the website, they polled the locals who saw the video and 69% stated they were laughing at the video. Only 7% said they were furious.
